As a narrator, Jim frequently hints at what will happen before it happens, a technique known as “foreshadowing.” Find an example of foreshadowing in this chapter. How does the technique affect your reading?

By the ending of the chapter Jim only tells us of the evil and warns us of the danger that he heard in the apple building. This foreshadows the danger and peril to come.  I think the reader is carefully being built up with hints of mounting tension and danger throughout the book.
