At the end did long john silver deserve his fate. Please explain.

In the end, Silver escapes with little of the money. While I feel fo him, he's a great bad guy, and dastardly things are what pirates are supposed to do, I think he got off pretty well. Long John was threatened to be hanged many times so at least he gets away to plot another scheme for our entertainment.
