Why doesn’t Jim or Stevenson reveal a more geographically accurate name for this island?

Jim never refers to the island as anything other than Treasure Island, but Treasure Island is only the voyagers’ private nickname for the place. Why doesn’t Jim or Stevenson reveal a more geographically accurate name for this island? Does this name change our perception of the place?

I don't know the exact reason, but I'm sure in Stevenson's view it was unnecessary information. The novel is fiction; the novel is titled at the author's discretion. In this case, Treasure Island aptly describes the setting.
