The women understand what a patriarchal world they live in. They, to lesser extents, live a similar life as Mrs. Wright.

The women see the cruelty that Mr. Wright wielded over his wife. The dead bird is just one example of the abuse she endured.

The women do not want Mrs. Wright to suffer the consequences for defending her own sanity.
