Why mrs Wright patient all this time with her husband and did not ask him for a divorce

The setting of this play is the early 1900's, and the play itself was inspired by a real life murder. Women didn't just leave their husbands in the early 1900's, and divorces were difficult and often impossible to obtain. Women, unhappy or not, stay in their marriages and did the best they could. Romantic love was not a given...... sadly, this unhappy marriage could have had a different end.
