How do Casey and Emmeline manage to sneak away from Legree's garret?

Cassy hatches a plan that makes Legree think that ghosts haunt the garret of the house. Both Cassie and Emmeline make it obvious that they are escaping. A mob hunts for them near a swamp that they were running towards. The two women slip back into the garret of the house where Cassy has been storing food. Here Emmaline can remain. Cassy has sufficiently frightened Legree to not visit the haunted part of the house.
