How is Christianity used to both justify and condemn slavery by the characters in the novel.

There isn't really much more..it's pretty straight forward.
Both abolitionists, slaves and slave owners use the Bible to justify their beliefs.
At one point a clergyman defends slavery by quoting,
"Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be." (chapter 12)
"Don't the Bible say we must love everybody?" (Chapter 23)
