The Impact of Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin

Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin was the United States' first social protest novel. Harriet was raised by a minister, her brothers were ministers, and her husband was a minister. The men around her all had an outlet for preaching that Harriet, as a woman, did not have, thus, she took her love for writing and her knowledge of slavery and wrote what she couldn't speak. The imapct of her novel stretched across the nation, as her furst publications took the form of newspaper articles. The effect of her words was widespread, as her novel didn't merely speak to the condition of slavery and those in the south that actively participated...... but to people in the north who claimed to disapprove but did nothing about it as well.
