Uncle Tom's Cabin
was Toms right not to escape with eliza? i

was he right when he said no to her
I'd have to disagree with Tom on this one. Now I would have absolutely no right to tell the character of Tom anything, I am so far removed from his experience. Still Tom is a human being and the property of no man including Mr. Shelby. I realize Tom was living under a completely different context but even then, the whole idea of slavery was disgusting. Tom had to know, on some level, that he had a right to freedom. Not leaving out of a duty to his master smacks of a lot of conditioning and fear.
