What do “Self-Reliance” and "Nature" seem to suggest about Emerson’s opinion of change?

Four years before Thoreau embarked on his Walden project, his great teacher and role model Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote an enormously influential essay entitled “Self-Reliance.” Emerson’s essay details, self-reliance can lead to spiritual as well as economic change. Self-reliance thus refers not just to paying one’s own bills, but also more philosophically to the way the natural world and humankind rely on the self to exist. Emerson felt that it was only through nature that man can re-aquaint himself with his inner truth. The rhythms of the seasons can change a person back to his or her internal rhythms; it is this deliberate experience which wakes man to the truth of his existence.
