In my opinion, Townsend has the ability to hurt Catherine most based on his motives and misleading actions. He does not want Catherine, he wants her money. Because of him, she turns her back on her father's advice, and as a result, effectively turns her back on her father. Morris Townsend's intent was never honorable, and he abandons her without batting an eye.

In my opinion, Catherine was hurt too much by morris townsend because he never loved her he was a fortune hunter capable to attract such a weak and naive girl. Morris as a skillful don Juan uses his elegant body to seduce the poor Catherine and his intelligence to gain her heart.
