Thematic Statement Help!!!

Hi!

I'm reading the short story "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been" by Joyce Carol Oates for my english class. I need to write a thematic statement over one of the themes in one sentence. There are mnay themes in this story so i'm a little lost... haha.

I was going to focus on the identity theme on this story but I can't think of a good thematic statement. Any help is appreciated.
