Where are you going, Where have you been?
Since we aren't told what happens to Connie in the end, we're free to imagine the story's conclusion. I think most anyone who has read the story would agree with the consensus that nothing good happens to Connie. Arnold is frightening in his obsession and terrifying in his insistence that Connie leave with him. His intentions are clear, and they're sexual in nature..... something made even worse by the presence of another man in the car. The only possible outcomes I envision are the rape and emotional devastation of a young girl..... and possibly her death. Each outcome is equally devastating.
