Billy Colman's narration is written in the first person, but it is also written by Billy as an adult. This specific type of narration allows the author to frame the novel; Billy introduces the story, and he ends the story. Using this type of narration also gives the novel a sense of immediacy, as his words are based upon the memories of his own younger self. I personally love hearing the little boy shine through during emotional scenes. It makes his innocence even more endearing than it would have been otherwise.
