How do Wilfred Owen in the poem ‘Disabled’ and Guy De Maupassant in ‘The Necklace’ highlight the importance of appearance?

These are very different narratives. I think the Necklace has to do with the vanity of appearance where as the poem speaks to a much more inner layer of identity and self.
