William Carlos Williams: Poems
How do you interpret the conjunction “still” in the last stanza?
In “Spring and All”.
In “Spring and All”.
Still operates as almost a turning point in the poem. Even though things are dead around the path - this is the end of the winter - the "still" represents a change in the scene being described and a feeling of strength coming upon these formerly dead "things." It changes the feel of the poem as the narrator notes that things that seemed dead are not coming alive.
