that in the begining when the world was young there were a great many thoughts but no such things as a truth. man made the truths himself and each truth was a composite of a great many vague thoughts. all about the wold were the truths and they were all beautiful.. and then people cam alonmg.

Once again, this is the narrator speaking. He is quoting (as closely as his memory allows) a section of a book entitled "The Book of the Grotesque", and can be found in the chapter by the same name.
