Auggie's family is crucial to his growth and maturity over the course of the novel. The other Pullmans are a constant source of support, encouragement, and love, no matter how rough it gets of Auggie as he tries to fit in beyond his family unit. While the universe has been unkind to Auggie in many ways, in perhaps the most important way it has blessed him with a loving, supportive family that can help him get through almost anything.

As far as respect and trust.... they are integral to the family unit. Auggie's family does not always agree on plans, responses, or actions, but they do respect each other's differing opinions and take the time to listen to each other when they disagree. Trust is found in knowing that each and every member of the family knows the other believes their actions and feelings are true and genuine.

Respect and trust are really the foundation of a healthy family dynamic. Without respect, family members may not feel heard or valued, which can lead to misunderstandings and conflict. Trust, on the other hand, creates a sense of emotional safety—when people trust each other, they can communicate openly, rely on one another, and feel secure in their relationships.

In a strong family, respect shows up in listening without judgment and acknowledging each person’s feelings, while trust is built through honesty and consistency over time. Together, they help create a supportive environment where everyone feels connected and understood.

I love how Auggie's family supports him. It reminds me of playing trees hate you, where you need a lot of patience to survive the traps. Family support is key in both!
