What’s wrong with Auggie?
Auggie has what is known as Treacher Collins syndrome, or TCS, but why is Auggie’s case supposedly more unusual and severe than most cases?

Auggie was born with an abnormally severe facial deformity that required multiple surgeries. When we first meet Auggie in the beginning of the novel, he's already been through twenty-seven surgeries.
People think I haven't gone to school because of the way I look, but it's not that. It's because of all the surgeries I've had. Twenty-seven since I was born.
