How does Lockwood characterize Heathcliff's class in contrast to the man's appearance? How would you categorize Lockwood's class and why?

Heathcliff is described as "a dark skinned gypsy, in aspect, in dress and manners a gentleman"
In regard to Lockwood; he can afford to vacation on the coast where he fell in love; he wishes to remove himself from society (in order to mend a broken heart); he looks down on Heathcliff's sloven appearance, and he wears a signet ring. Thus, we can assume he's from the upper class based upon the information we read in Chapter One.
