Why did Ann refer to the store as an "illusion?"

When the story begins Anne is alone and somewhat frightened. Initially, she believes that her need will be met by using the goods left behind ar the general store, Over time, she realizes that her initial thoughts were just an illusion.... that the good in the store would eventually run out.
