Why do you think Ann Does not stick up for herself when Loomis bullies her?

Ann is afraid of Loomis... she refrains from sticking up for herself because she is afraid of being hurt. As time goes on, Ann becomes increasingly convinced that the current setup – in which both of them are occupying Ann’s home – is not going to work.
