Apartheid

A typically government-enforced system that enshrined into law the forced racial segregation of two (or more) races

Chattel slavey

The system by which slaves and their children are treated as personal property and bought and sold on an open market.

Endemic

Something that is pervasive and lasts forever.

Grandeur

Something or someone of profound splendor and magnificence.

Inaugurate

To initiate something; to begin something new.

Indelible

Something that can't be erased or removed (from a collective consciousness, for example).

Osmosis

A slow process by which someone processes something (information, for example).

Perennial

Something that lasts for quite a long time.

Sharecropper

A person - or people - who give up part of their crop each year to the people who own the land that they farm on.

Subordination

To put someone or something into a lower class than they currently are.
