A Dance of the Forests Lesson Plan

Study Objectives

If all of the elements of this lesson plan are employed, students will develop the following powers, skills, and understanding:

    Students will learn about the significance of African proverbs, and analyze various proverbs from the text.

  2. 2

    Students will be introduced to Yoruba deities and mythology, and be able to draw connections to other mythologies.

  3. 3

    Students will gain an understanding of postcolonial African literature and the major themes emphasized by postcolonial writers.

  4. 4

    Students will identify major themes from the text and write an essay explaining a theme using textual analysis, and drawing from other primary and secondary sources.
