Multiplicity in A Farewell to Arms: Disguised Meanings and Ulterior Purposes Emily Draeger 10th Grade

According to famous American actress Marilyn Monroe, “Sometimes good things fall apart so that better things can fall together”. At times when it seems one’s world is falling apart and life is not worth the unbearable pain, something unexpected happens in life that brings incredible happiness previously thought to be nonexistent. There are oftentimes hidden joys in life that go unnoticed because people are distracted by the hardships they’re currently enduring. The Lost Generation is known for their lack of faith and hopeless outlook on life, and their tendency to ignore these pleasures. Throughout his critical novel, A Farewell to Arms, Hemingway secretly portrays that there are ulterior motives in one’s life that allow them to experience life the way it is supposed to be lived. In his novel, A Farewell to Arms, Ernest Hemingway portrays the despairing characteristics of the Lost Generation and their lost will to succeed while ultimately promoting the power of love and religion and how those who embraced it found purpose.
