Happy man
At the beginning of the play, More talks about what in his mind was the image of the most happy man in the world. According to him, a happy man is not a rich man, but rather a poor man but with a clear conscience. Thus, for him, happiness is not a large quantity of material possessions but rather someone who feels free to live as he wants and is left alone to live his life as he pleases.
Big cross
The people who were members of the Catholic Church all are described as wearing big crosses around their necks. The crosses were a symbol for the Catholic Church and their size was also important because it symbolized the fact that the Catholic Church had the most influence in the country and that it was the most important element in the country. Thus, the image of the cross is important in the play.
Taking off the chain
When More found out that the Kingdom of England separated itself from the Catholic Church, the first thing he did was take of the collar that symbolized the fact that he was renouncing his position as Chancellor and standing for what he believed in. the image is important because it shows that even though More knew that he was putting his life in danger, he was willing to stand for what he believed in.
King Henry coming with the boat
Another important image is that of King Henry arriving with a boat to More’s house. The image of King Henry in a boat is important because it shows just how far King Henry was willing to go to fulfill his desires and how sure he was of the fact that he wanted to marry another woman.
