Revealing One's True Self in 'Twelve Angry Men' and 'An Enemy of the People' 10th Grade
An enemy of the people vs 12 angry men When an individual desires something so strongly, this individual will vigorously invest him/herself into achieving this desire that they begin to lose their moral compass. This desire will take over their lives forcing them to lose their individuality. Two texts that show this are Twelve Angry Men by Sidney Lumet and An Enemy of The People adapted by Arthur Miller. If we know what a person desires we are able to see their true character, which will make them easier to manipulate. A person's integrity is truly shown when put into a hard situation. However, it is not always desirable to do the right thing in some cases; in fact, an individual’s true ambition may reveal parts of their character they do not want people to see.
In Twelve Angry Men a pan shot of the jurors sitting in the courtroom, diversifies their mostly negative attitudes towards the case with only one juror who appears to be listening, considering the stakes of the case, a boy’s life. This reveals the effect of peer pressure and how it can contribute to an individual’s decision.
