This poem pays tribute to Robert Gregory, the son of Lady Augusta Gregory. In fact, Yeats wrote this work, alongside several others on the same topic, after being prompted by Lady Gregory to respond to Robert's death. This link includes an English translation of a Gaelic poem performed by Lady Gregory. The translation, and the commentary around it, give insight into the Gregory family. They also offer a glimpse at Yeats and Gregory's work within the Irish Revival movement.
