Why do you think Roy responds the way he does to Joe's confidence that he's with a man? What is influencing the way he responds?
Roy's could be motivated by a number of factors:
- Roy says he didn't see it coming and is surprised
- Roy is disappointed that he can't be with Joe, or is jealous that another man gets to be with Joe and he does not
- Roy regrets the way he's lived his life now that he is dying of AIDS
Roy tells Joe to go back to his wife, which is the opposite advice Roy had given him a month earlier, so it is clear that the progression of Roy's illness has at least something to do with his dramatic change in attitude.
