Description of the Dead Girl
When Anne was young, she was fascinated by dead people. Therefore when a girl who lived nearby died, she went to the funeral home to view the body. Annie described the girl as, 'She was lying in a rectangular pitch-pine, varnished coffin on a bed of mauve and white lilacs. She wore a white dress...' The description contains imagery because it has adjectives such as white to describe the clothes the girl had been dressed in.
Annie's mother
Annie described her mother as follows, 'What a beautiful long neck, and long plaited hair which she pinned up around the crown of her head because when her hair hung down it made her too hot.' The narration contains adjectives such as long and beautiful therefore building the imagery of the description.
The Trunk
Annie inherited her mother's trunk. In this trunk, she kept her most precious items that she had acquired over time. The trunk is described as, '... painted the trunk yellow and green outside and she lined the inside with wallpaper that had a cream background with pink roses printed all over it.' This description contains imagery because of the use of colors to describe the trunk.
Annie's Dresses
When Annie looked through her trunk, she saw all her old dresses that she described as follows, 'A yellow cotton with green smocking on the front, there was the dress that I wore on my second birthday, a pink cotton with green smocking on the front.' The description of the dresses contains imagery because Annie used adjectives to describe them. For example colors such as pink and green.
