Give Me A Shot, Snyder
You find yourself on an elevator with the Dean of Chicago GSB. Please tell him why this is the right school for you and what you hope to contribute to the school if admitted.
Dean Snyder, it is so nice to meet you. Given that we are on an elevator and have but a few moments to converse, I will be brief. Chicago is my place. It is my family's place. I have attended other institutions of higher learning, but have never found one like Chicago. I am a very rigorous thinker; I enjoy applying rational analysis to all aspects of life. What mode of thought could possibly be more Chicago GSB? My time as an undergraduate in the Chicago economics department has provided me with a fantastic background in theory, and I now want the opportunity to apply the same intense methodology to the actual practice of business. I want to apply the Chicago school of thought, if that is not an oxymoron.
I bring a distinctly different background to the GSB. While many applicants come from consulting, banking, and other established areas of business, I am a tried-and-true entrepreneur. I bring a totally different risk profile to classroom discussion and business thought. I am not conservative in my solutions to problems. I am not used to operating with large budgets. I am someone who works with what they have to get the job done - a refreshing counterpoint to many modern business practices.
