University of Maryland Robert H. Smith School of Business
Statement of Purpose
What are your long and short term goals? Where do you see yourself in 7-10 years? Why do you wish to attend the Smith School of Business?
Upon completion of a dual MBA-MPP degree from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business and the School of Public Policy, I want to work for the Federal Government, initially as an intelligence and/or financial policy analyst. I am highly interested in a few federal agencies, including, but not necessarily limited to, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the State Department, and the Department of Defense. In the short term, my primary goals are to move from being in an analytical position at the GS-9 or GS-10 level to being a program manager at the GS-12 or GS-13 level. As I gain more experience and take on increasingly higher amounts of responsibility, I seek to make the transition away from analysis. My goal is to move to a position which will allow me to contribute more toward day-to-day coordination and decision making at higher levels within the agency. An MPP from the School of Public Policy will provide me with the necessary area knowledge and policy expertise, while an MBA from the Smith School will provide me with a solid grounding in finance and management theory; I feel that the Smith MBA will allow me to more quickly make the transition to management.
