Who Needs Hogwarts When You've Got a Book? Elizabeth P Rampton

Alice has her rabbit hole; Lucy has her wardrobe; Harry has Platform Nine and Three-quarters; as for me, I have my bookshelf. Reading is something I have always loved to do. It allows me to escape to another world from the comfort of my fuzzy blanket. My mother says that when I was little, she would often find me with a book in my hand, even before I had learned to read. When I was a kid, summer meant fireworks, hot dogs, and a weekly stack of books from the library. To this day, I always have a book on my nightstand and at least one book in my backpack.

I believe there is a book for everyone out there; they just need to discover what it is. I love reading; however, my sister, Ella*, does not. She has a learning disability. Something I love so much is incredibly frustrating to her. She dreads math because she can't read the story problems. She stumbles on sounding things out, let alone being able to follow the class lesson. I hope that perhaps if we found something to ignite the flame for reading, it would turn the key for her. Despite her teachers and my parents' best efforts, we still haven't discovered the book for her that will open up a whole new world. I do believe it's out there for her. I think that's part of the magic...
