Exploring the Boundaries of my Education at Brown

What do you hope to experience at Brown through the Open Curriculum, and what do you hope to contribute to the Brown community? (250 word limit)


My father treats wrong turns on road trips as opportunities for new experiences. Sometimes, I think he’d take an early exit on purpose, just to receive Mom’s famous glare. Nonetheless, he’d always look back at me as we both exclaimed, “It’ll be an adventure!” This love of adventure remains an essential part of my life, and I see a great opportunity to explore that through Brown’s Open Curriculum.

As an inquisitive artist, taking classes in contrasting areas excites me, even if they fall outside my comfort zone. I’m thrilled by the unique classes not found in a high school curriculum. Meditation and the Brain will teach me to manage stress, while Introduction to Modern Greek will challenge me intellectually and teach me the language of my relatives; both provide valuable life skills and personal benefits. The Jazz of Modern Physics will let me explore connections in superficially unrelated topics, encouraging cross-disciplinary collaboration. Through the Open Curriculum, I’ll experiment with new interests and truly be the architect of my education.

In return, I’ll bring to Brown my creativity and love of collaborating with others. I look forward to joining clubs and taking classes where I can put these qualities to use. Lastly,...
