The Latin words, "Vires, Artes, Mores" have been the guiding philosophy behind Florida State University. Vires signifies strength of all kinds - moral, physical, and intellectual; Artes alludes to the beauty of intellectual pursuits as exemplified in skill, craft, or art; and Mores refers to character, custom, or tradition. Describe how one or more of the values embodied in these concepts are reflected in your life. (500 words)
My yearning for the highest caliber of learning has taken me to Design and Architecture Senior High; it has been the driving force that wakes me up in the morning to prepare for an eight hour day as well as two hours of travel time, it has defined my indifference by not allowing it to exist as many other students my age embrace it. Every student at DASH has gone through a rigorous selection process of auditions, waiting and interviews synonymous with what the college search and application process makes each freshman class endure. I have been taught and pushed to make work that is evocative, that is innovative and is influenced by the surroundings that has produced the unique “me”.
The myriad of examples that embody the Artes in my life can be seen in my career program work, as well as my fine art. At DASH students engage in a career program from sophomore to senior year, and have additional core art classes as well as focused academic courses of the norm. I dedicated my meticulousness to drafting in the Architecture program my sophomore year, and have allotted the rest of my time, my skills and diligence to Graphic Design.
