My Future Plans at Oxy Anonymous

Eating-disorder-related issues are not acknowledged in the skating world. From a young age, I was taught the minimum amount of calories my organs required, tips for suppressing hunger, and methods of hiding malnutrition-induced alopecia from others. Fellow skaters around me incessantly dropped lower in weight, and I was shocked to discover how powerful the mind could be, to deceive itself into a state of self-ruin.

Struck by these experiences, I desire a deeper understanding on the cognitive implications of heightened emotional distress. Thus, taking advantage of Occidental’s extensive course offerings, I plan on complementing my major, Psychology, with a minor in Neuroscience. By coupling these studies, I will be equipped with the underpinnings of neural and physiological understanding under renowned professors such as Professor Shtulman. Furthermore, I’m interested in Occidental’s Summer Research Program, and I’m looking forward to the opportunity of working collaboratively with faculty while participating in interdisciplinary exchanges with other like-minded students.
