God’s Empowerment, Pepperdine’s Influence Anonymous

A woman in heels click-clacks through the parking lot, walks up three steps, and pauses as a young man with short curly hair and an inviting smile opens the door to the building. An old man, grandfather to many, hobbles into the building from his parking spot near the entrance. In the meeting room, a single voice rings out, “I sing because I’m happy…” Suddenly, all talking ceases, and people stand, lifting their hands in worship. The tangible energy of the Holy Spirit circulates the sanctuary, uniting a diverse group of individuals into a strong body of believers, thinkers, and doers. Standing among the crowd, I know that the environment created at my church can influence the world well beyond these walls, and I aspire to duplicate this everywhere I go.

As a young Christian, I am aware of the importance of working in an environment of belief and empowerment. Pepperdine offers a multitude of opportunities to connect with Christians through small groups, recreational events, and student-led ministries, fellowships I will undoubtedly take part in at the university.
