Small but Essential Outreach to the Community

What have you done to make your school or your community a better place?


Every birthday of mine there is one specific thing I look forward to: my friend Tamara's handmade card. Every year she makes me a homemade card and every year, I'm warmed by her thoughtfulness, love, and care. It's the small yet thoughtful gestures like these that matter most to me.


The Acts of Random Kindness Club stands for exactly that; we work to serve our community through small, yet meaningful acts. Everyone wants to feel loved, so as a club, we strive to reach out to a large range of students to create a more inclusive campus. For our first activity this year, each member wrote two notes, tied each around a Twix candy bar, and gave them to two students they had never met before. Many students, eyes wide open and shocked, were touched by this heartfelt gesture. We also hold staff appreciation activities in which our members create thank you posters for our faculty. Through these little activities, we strive to add positivity to the environment and put smiles on peoples' faces.


Personally, I want the club to have a lasting impact, one in which students will take their authentic motives and serve the community beyond our school. An example of how we can impact our local community is by visiting nursing homes. I know how...
