It is a creative response to the famous "Find X" question from Uchicago. It is written from the point of view of X which is trying to figure out it's identity in different ways.


I’m the heart of a million questions in your math textbook. Universally cursed, universally appreciated. I’m immensely thankful to have the privilege of enjoying a timeless celebrity status -the king of the Hollywood of mathematics. Don’t roll your eyes or cringe. I’m not a black and white outdated guy. I have made it to Hollywood several times - for instance, Captain Jack Sparrow’s map. SpaceX , IphoneX, and countless big brands have embraced me, placing me at the forefront of technology.

I’m not pretentious, self exaggerating. I’m honest and open to my insecurities and vulnerabilities. I face an existential crisis. I’m notoriously famous for being something that is not there. The problem was easy if I could just be a vacuum. But no, I’m 2 or 3 or 0.6666 or maybe even 3.141 depending on the circumstances. I don’t change my colors. It’s just that I don’t have a true color. Who am I? Why do you want to find me? And even if you’ve found me, have you?

As if the invisible cloak on me wasn’t enough, I even have the power to cast an invisibility charm on the numbers on your report card if I appear- clothed in red, on your answer sheet. Although I know you do hate me for this, try not to. I’m the symbolic equivalent for “NO” and...
