The Dancing Kid

Suddenly, while I was singing the names of the ancient Chinese dynasties in preparation for my early morning Chinese class, I was interrupted by a flash of red and a blast of Beyonce’s “Drunk in Love.” A kid, dressed up with a snazzy tie and red button-up shirt, just danced past me. It was The Dancing Kid, or that’s what some people call him. He was always dancing through the halls, unafraid of the stares he got while dancing through the school halls. Most people would feel uncomfortable dancing around anyone, let alone a whole school. I wanted to know his story. Since I joined the school newspaper my senior year, I learned the power of writing. Writing gives the author power to influence and impact people.
I found The Dancing Kid in the cafeteria shortly after he danced past me and I asked if I could interview him for the school paper. He enthusiastically accepted the offer, and I was able to share his story with my school. The school learned his name, Amir Chambers, and learned that despite all the mean comments he received, such as “you suck, stop dancing”, he stayed true to his passion for dancing, someday hoping to be at the top of the dance league....
