My Quest for Finding Truths
Describe the unique qualities that attract you to the specific undergraduate College or School (including preferred admission and dual degree programs) to which you are applying at the University of Michigan. How would that curriculum support your interests? (550 words)

Coming from Vietnam, I have seen how the Communist Party has “reinterpreted” history to fit with their narrative of the world. As such, I have come to question the history that I was taught. The danger of one-sided historical reinterpretation is that it can lead to the loss of shared identity and the elimination of meaningful reference points to learn from. Since truth in history is subject to interpretation, I am interested in studying history in the US and at the University of Michigan in particular to gain exposure to different perspectives so I can formulate my own truths.
I am drawn to U-M History department as it offers the best of both worlds. As one of the largest and most prestigious History departments in the world, I will have access to a vast network of resources, incredible research opportunities and world-renowned professors. Meanwhile, the History mentorship will provide personalized guidance to ensure that I take full advantage of the department and of U-M.
