As for Me and My House Imagery

As for Me and My House Imagery

Rain

Mrs Bentley notes “The rain’s so sharp and strong it crackles on the windows just like sand” a description which presents the imagery of sound where the reader can picture the sounds the rain made after falling on the windows.

Flowing of Water

The author writes “Philip and I sat in the snowstorm watching the water rush through the stones so that sometimes as we watched, it seemed still, solid like glass.’ This description appeals to one's sense of motion since it presents an image of the water flowing and someone being lost in their thoughts such that the water seems to stand still.

Sunshine light

There was a bright fall of sunshine that made the dingy landscape radiant.” This description appeals to the reader’s sense of sight. One can visualize the sunlight shinning on the landscape illuminating it.

Dust Clouds

The author mentions the August heat as being heavy and suffocating and quotes “dust clouds lapping at the sky of dense, rigid heat." This image describes the troubled marriage of the Bentleys complicated by the affair of Philip and Judith and which was weighing heavy on Mrs Bentley.
