Biography of
Dashka Slater
Dashka Slater is the New York Times-bestselling author of The 57 Bus, a narrative non-fiction account of the lives of those involved in the 2013 attack on Sasha Fleischman in Oakland, California. In addition to non-fiction, Slater has authored many children's books, for which she has received numerous awards like the Wanda Gag Book Award and a Junior Library Guild Selection. The 57 Bus was a YALSA finalist in nonfiction.
Slater is a recipient of a Creative Writing Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. The daughter of sociologist Philip Slater and playwright Dori Appel, she hails from Cambridge, Massachusetts but has lived most of her life in Oakland, California, where she currently lives and works as a journalist.
