Biography of
Garth Davis
Garth Davis is an Australian film and television director best known for his direction of the film Lion. Additionally, he directed a number of episodes of the acclaimed Jane Campion miniseries Top of the Lake, as well as 2018's Mary Magdalene.
Davis grew up in Brisbane and now lives in Melbourne, Australia. In 2003, he directed a short film called Alice, before transitioning into directing television in 2006 with the series Love My Way. His direction of the acclaimed film Lion, based on the true story of Saroo Brierley, put him on the map when the film was nominated for six Academy Awards. Dev Patel and Luke Davies both won BAFTAs for the film.
In 2018, Davis directed a biopic about Mary Magdelene, with a screenplay by Helen Edmundson and Phillippa Goslett. The film received mixed reviews.
