Peter Farrelly is an American director and screenwriter who is best known for directing and producing broad comedic films with his brother, Bobby. Together, they are known as the Farrelly Brothers, and their films include Dumb and Dumber, Shallow Hal, Me, Myself and Irene, and There's Something About Mary. Additionally, Peter Farrelly has most recently earned acclaim for writing and directing the Academy Award-winning 2018 film Green Book.
After taking a job waiting tables on Cape Cod, Farrelly decided to apply to a master's program for writing, and earned admission to UMass Amherst, before transferring to Columbia University, where he first became interested in screenwriting. After receiving his MFA from Columbia, he began to direct, write, and produce films with his brother, as well as commercials for Miller Lite.
Farrelly's films include Dumb and Dumber, Kingpin, There's Something About Mary, Me, Myself & Irene, Osmosis Jones, Shallow Hal, Stuck on You, Fever Pitch, The Heartbreak Kid, The Three Stooges, Dumb and Dumber To, and Green Book. For Green Book, Farrelly was awarded the Academy Award for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay.
