Biography of
Sinuhe
R. B. Parkinson is a British Egyptologist and former museum curator. His main research focus is the interpretation of Ancient Egyptian literature.
After completing his doctoral thesis at the University of Oxford in the late 1980s, Parkinson worked at the Department of Egyptian Antiquities at the British Museum. He became a curator in 1991, and was responsible for maintaining and publishing ancient Egyptian manuscripts written in hieroglyphs.
In 2013, Parkinson left the British Museum and was appointed Professor of Egyptology at Oxford. He has authored ten books whose topics have included Ancient Egypt, The Rosetta Stone, and an LGBT history of the world.
The Tale of Sinuhe (or The Story ofSinuhe) is an Ancient Egyptian text composed around 1875 BC. Concerning the life of a fictional man who flees Egypt and becomes a hero abroad, it is one of the earliest known literary texts.
