Thanhha Lai
Thanhhà Lại (pronounced "Than-ha") is a Vietnam-born writer who lives in upstate New York.
After fleeing Vietnam toward the end of the war in 1975, Lai and her family settled in Alabama. Lại worked as a journalist in California before undertaking a Master of Fine Arts degree at New York University.
Her novels include Inside Out & Back Again, Listen, Slowly, and Butterfly Yellow.
Set in 1975, Thanhha Lai's Inside Out & Back Again is a novel written in verse that follows ten-year-old protagonist Kim Hà and her family as they flee Saigon at the end of the Vietnam War and adapt to life as refugees in Alabama.
