Biography of Tim Blake Nelson

Tim Blake Nelson is an American actor, playwright, and filmmaker. Often considered a "character actor," Nelson's acting credits usually feature eccentric but more minor roles. Previous roles of Nelson's have included Delmar O'Donnell in O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000), Gideon in Minority Report (2002), and Dr. Pendanski in Holes (2003). As a playwright, Nelson's work has been relatively well-received by major publications. His plays include Eye of God (Seattle Repertory Theatre, 1997), and The Grey Zone (MCC Theatre, 1996). Both plays were later adapted into films, which Nelson also directed. Eye of God was nominated for both an Independent Spirit Award and the Sundance Grand Jury Prize.

Nelson grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma in a Jewish family. He attended Brown University, where he majored in classics and graduated in 1986. He graduated from Juilliard in 1990 and is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society.
