Mrs. Mudge represents the nondescriptive religious category of "New Thought," and her hour-long speech does little to provide any actual insight into what New Thought might actually mean.
Although Mrs. Mudge's sermon is hypnotic in its delivery, no one can find any actual meaning in the words she's delivered. Appropriately, the sermon contains no punctuation whatsoever, until the end, turning it into little more into a hodgepodge of words for listener and reader alike. The lack of grammar reflects its lack of meaningful content, revealing Mrs. Mudge to be a religious quack.
