The City of Tova

The city of Tova symbolizes holiness. The Sun priest watches over the sacred events taking place in Tova. The author focuses more on Tova to fictionalize the events taking place in the novel. Consequently, Tova is a sacred place where the holy men oversee the solar eclipse and other important events that unfold.

Solar Eclipse

The solar eclipse is used figuratively to represent the holy events taking place in the city of Tova. One of the key roles of the Sun priest is to watch over the solar eclipse and translate its meaning to the people. Similarly, the Sun priest uses the solar eclipse to predict a possible danger to the community.

Xiala’s ship

The arrival of Xiala's ship in Tova symbolizes anxiety. The people of Tova know that the people of Teek are dangerous, and they hold destructive powers. However, when Xiala and Serapio arrive in Tova, they pretend to be kind and harmless. Later, it is discovered that Serapio has killed several Watchers.

The death of the Carrion Crow’s leading woman

The death of the Carrion Crow's leading woman symbolizes Naranpa's troubles. When Carrion died, her son was expected to take over the leadership of the Watchers because he came from a famous clan. However, Naranpa managed to seize the position, but she did not hold the position of Sun priest for long because the Carrion Crown overthrew her.
